Sushi
Sushi is the generic name these days for “vinegared rice”.
Sushi bars can now be found in most towns and cities around the world. Recognised as a healthy alternative to the fried fast foods common in Westernised societies, sushi is one of the fastest growing food alternatives available.
Sushi can be found in many forms, square, round, rice inside wrapper, rice outside wrapper. There are even regional areas claiming their own special version of sushi.
What you need for making sushi at home is the vinegared rice, made from short grained rice, cooled down to room temperature and mixed with rice vinegar and salt. In addition you will need something to form the sushi roll with, such as nori seaweed sheet or a thin omelet.
Sushi can be made at home, using vegetables, meats and cheeses already in the refrigerator. The only thing that needs to be prepared is the sushi rice. The way of preparing the sushi rice can be found here.
There are many sushi recipes and a lot can be found here, but you can make your own variations easily.
It is even possible to make dessert and breakfast sushi as well as the common ones. Your imagination (and what you have in your refrigerator) is your only limitation.
