Tenacity – The Key to Success in Anything
This is the Simple (But Not Always Fast) Path to Success
As the Year rolls on and we move from one season to another we see our goals move either closer or further away from us. We like to think we are always moving forward, but that isn’t always true.
I have found over the years that our movement appears to be responsive to the seasons. For example, during the summer the desire to be out in the sun enjoying yourself sometimes overcomes the need to maintain cash flows and business growth. This is where your tenacity needs to be strong within yourself.
Autumn is the time when realisation sets in that you should store away goods and resources for the long dark winter ahead. You buckle down and get serious with your life and your business to make sure you can survive for the year ahead. You carefully marshal your resources for the final gathering in for the year.
Tenacity is the least-talked-about, but possibly the most important word in your business (and life) vocabulary.
Tenacity is the secret ingredient that makes everything else you learn about business and life work in the real world.
As you build your business, or even move through life then you need to be very clear of where you are going. Without the right goals you are just a lost soul wandering in the wilderness.
I always regard the future as a slab of wet concrete waiting to set. Everything is fluid until you or something changes the state from wet to fixed. Setting a goal is firing an arrow across that slab of wet concrete into the future where you haven’t stepped yet. Where the arrow lands the concrete sets and becomes the goal and now you have a point you can focus on as you step forward onto that slab of wet concrete into the future. Without a goal, every direction forward looks the same and you have no focus and no desire to get somewhere.
“Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?”
“That depends a good deal on where you want to get to.”
“I don’t much care where –”
“Then it doesn’t matter which way you go.”
― Lewis Carroll, Alice in Wonderland
Pick the right goal for you (what do YOU want to do with your life) and focus on it. Move forward and don’t look back. Learn from your mistakes and try not to repeat them.
Now that you have a goal you need to map out the path to reach it. This is where tenacity comes in.
Break down the path you must take (and remember there may be many paths – some direct, others wandering) to reach your goal. Find out what is necessary to reach your immediate and long term goal. Does it need you need to learn something, do you have to find customers, transport operators, manufacturing facilities, and lots more for your particular goals? Break down the path into small steps and move forward. If you get blocked on one path then find another around the blockage. All this takes tenacity, and a lot of it.
The successful people are those who have the tenacity to move around, through or over obstacles that they or others place in the way to the arrow sitting ahead of you in the wet concrete.
Have you got what it takes to persist despite everything that life and others may throw at you?
This last point isn’t easy.
You must practice tenacity in the face of not knowing, and in the face of not seeing immediate results.
Most importantly practise tenacity even when you feel like resigning yourself to failure.
Those who make it are those who don’t give up. They persist. They’re determined. They do what it takes to reach their goals and bring them to life.
Be tenacious and your goal will be reached. Believe in yourself, few others will.
Michel Van Mellaerts (The Wasabi Maestro) is the recognized World authority and expert on the practical Growing, Processing and Marketing of Wasabia japonica. He and his wife have been commercially growing Wasabia japonica longer than anyone else outside Japan.
Trained as an Engineer he has invented and installed many improved growing systems into their farms. These enable high quality Wasabi to be grown anywhere in the World.
The Wasabi Maestroes have set up commercial Wasabi growing farms from the Arctic Circle to Southern New Zealand, including the Equator. They have worked with individual growers, national governments, and investment groups on four continents.
These growing systems have reduced growing times by nearly 67%, improved yield and quality of the Wasabi rhizome, and increased the levels of active ingredients by nearly 100%. It is these active ingredients that independent scientific studies show kills cancer cells and improves human health.
They pioneered the use of Wasabia japonica in the Nutraceutical and Medical industries. They are at the leading edge of research into the benefits of Wasabi on human and animal health.
The Wasabi Maestroes offer a Training and Consultancy service for potential and actual Wasabi growers who only want to learn from the best. Others spend their time floundering around trying to find out what information is useful and what isn’t.
The Training has been proven and improved over the last 20 years plus of personal commercial Wasabi growing. This has been hands on, getting wet and dirty work – not guesswork from behind a desk.
