Preparing to set up a Wasabi Farm using a simplified plan.
Setting up a Wasabi Farm is just the same as any other major project.
The bulk of the work has been done before you even get to the point where you start building, or in this case – planting Wasabi plants.
Getting this front end of the project wrong will cost you a lot of time and money trying to get it right later on.
The diagram to the right indicates the areas that need to be sorted out before you can even think about how to set up your Wasabi Farm.
In our experience we have found that most people rush into wanting to get the plants growing and making things up as they go along, and then wonder why they fail. When we started that is exactly what we did and it took a lot of dead Wasabi plants for us to finally figure out what we were doing. Today there is no excuse for the first time Wasabi Grower to fail so long as they make sure they get the right information from the right people. [Contact us now to get the training you need from the Wasabi Maestroes].
Do you want to build a Research Wasabi Farm to find out how to grow Wasabi over the next 5 years or so, or do you want to build a commercial wasabi farm and be getting a return in 18 months? Your choice.
While the time taken to address some of these initial requirements can be short, there is no excuse for not doing them properly.
Even before you get into the location you will need to collect the information you need – this information can be found in a previous post entitled Wasabi Grower in 8 Steps. This should help you in setting up a Wasabi Farm.
As you can see there are some 15 things to be sorted out even before you get to the point where you have plants growing in your Wasabi Farm.
In our training modules we go through each of these items in detail and give you the reasons why you need to get them right.
The list of training modules can be found here. Each modules builds on the previous although you might be able to mix and match if you want. Go and sign up now as there are likely to be limits on numbers as the Wasabi Maestroes are supposed to be retired. 🙂
Michel Van Mellaerts (The Wasabi Maestro) is the recognized World authority and expert on the practical Growing, Processing and Marketing of Wasabia japonica. He and his wife have been commercially growing Wasabia japonica longer than anyone else outside Japan.
Trained as an Engineer he has invented and installed many improved growing systems into their farms. These enable high quality Wasabi to be grown anywhere in the World.
The Wasabi Maestroes have set up commercial Wasabi growing farms from the Arctic Circle to Southern New Zealand, including the Equator. They have worked with individual growers, national governments, and investment groups on four continents.
These growing systems have reduced growing times by nearly 67%, improved yield and quality of the Wasabi rhizome, and increased the levels of active ingredients by nearly 100%. It is these active ingredients that independent scientific studies show kills cancer cells and improves human health.
They pioneered the use of Wasabia japonica in the Nutraceutical and Medical industries. They are at the leading edge of research into the benefits of Wasabi on human and animal health.
The Wasabi Maestroes offer a Training and Consultancy service for potential and actual Wasabi growers who only want to learn from the best. Others spend their time floundering around trying to find out what information is useful and what isn’t.
The Training has been proven and improved over the last 20 years plus of personal commercial Wasabi growing. This has been hands on, getting wet and dirty work – not guesswork from behind a desk.
