Wasabi Land – What types of land can you use?
This lesson is about the type of Wasabi land that you will need if you are going to grow wasabi. In some cases you do not need any land dependent on the type of growing that you want to do. Most people, automatically think that growing wasabi entails having a large area of open land in the right climate. This is not necessarily the case, as the growing area required is very dependent on the growing system selected.
This lesson discusses the various types of land and the options available. When you get further into the planning you will need to come back to this lesson to check the Wasabi land suitability.
At this point look at the type of land you currently have access to grow Wasabi and whether that limits your growing system options later on.
Each topic deals with a specific aspect of the land you have and makes you regard both the costs and ease of making the land suitable for growing wasabi.
The variation in land used to grow Wasabi is great. It varies from very cold to very hot, from very dry to very humid. The outside environment is irrelevant if the wasabi is grown inside a building or structure. This is actually our preferred option and the easiest way of growing high quality wasabi plants.
We can’t all be lucky enough to own or find a piece of land that is an exact copy of the Japanese mountains where wasabi originally grew, so we have to make the most of it, and alter the land to suit our requirements. The human race has been doing this since they appeared on this planet, so this is nothing new.
