Wasabi Cream Cheese

Ingredients

1 (8-ounce) brick cream cheese, not softened
1 Tbsp Namida® Wasabi Paste made from Namida® 100% Pure Wasabi Powder
1/4 cup sesame seeds, lightly toasted
1/4 cup soy sauce
1/4 cup chopped green onions
Slivered fresh ginger, for garnish (optional)

Method

  1. Chill block of cream cheese.
  2. Prepare wasabi paste, set aside.
  3. While the cream cheese is very cold and firm, split the brick lengthwise into 3 slices.
  4. Spread wasabi paste on the 2 cut sides, adding more or less wasabi to your liking.
  5. Layer the cream cheese slices to reform the brick (like a layer cake).
  6. After layering the cream cheese, coat the sesame seeds all over the cream cheese.
  7. Place wasabi cream cheese on a serving plate and let soften slightly.
  8. Pour soy sauce around the brick.
  9. Garnish with green onion, ginger slices and extra wasabi if desired.
  10. Serve with rice crackers.

The appetizer can be altered to suit your taste.

Note: With any cream-cheese appetiser, the flavour is best when the cream cheese has slightly softened.
