Have you started thinking about your Thanksgiving dinner yet?
If you haven't then you should really start today.
I realise that you are likely thinking that this reminder is a month too early, but we all know that a month rushes by so quickly. This is especially true with school and college starting, Halloween coming up, and the general rush of life.
So, why have I decided to send out this reminder to you.
Firstly, I wanted to give a heads up so that you can start planning ahead now, and maybe make the major purchases for the Thanksgiving holiday while the prices are still reasonable. We know that prices rise for nearly everything a couple of weeks before the holidays, so the retailer makes more money and the discounts they offer after the holidays seem bigger.
At this point in time you should really be deciding what you are going to serve as the major centerpiece of your Thanksgiving dinner.
Is it going to be the traditional turkey or maybe something else?
If you plan on cooking the traditional turkey then it might be worthwhile reading this first.
If you are looking for other centerpiece options for your Thanksgiving that will wow your family and friends, here are a few ideas.
All of these options, including the traditional turkey will need a really good gravy to bring out the flavour. Here is a recipe for one that we use all the time. It will lift the flavours and enhance your enjoyment of the meal.
For the baked salmon then you would need a mild wasabi mayonnaise or aioli dressing to bring out the natural flavour of the fish. Here is a recipe that we use a lot with fish.
Now that you have decided what your centerpiece will be, now is the time that you should be buying what you want and storing it in your freezer until you need to defrost it before cooking. Bear in mind that this may take several days before it goes in the oven.
Also you are likely to save a significant amount of money buying it before all the prices go up prior to Thanksgiving, as they do every year.
Enjoy your holiday and your friends and family.
